What should I expect?

The SMSTS online course provides five days of live, instructor-led training via a virtual classroom. You’ll take part in interactive discussions, practical exercises, case studies, and group activities covering site safety, legal responsibilities, and risk management, with full support to prepare for the final assessment.

What does the course cover?

The SMSTS course covers health and safety law, the responsibilities of site managers, risk assessments and method statements, accident prevention and reporting, and the management of high-risk activities.

It also focuses on leadership, communication, and effective site management to ensure compliance with CITB standards and maintain safe, well-run construction sites.

Who should take the online course?

The online course is ideal for site managers, project managers, and senior supervisors responsible for planning, organising, and overseeing construction work. It’s perfect for those who need a flexible, remote learning option while still gaining interactive training, group discussions, and a CITB-recognised qualification required by employers or contracts.

How does the assessment work?

You’ll complete a multiple-choice exam, and practical assessments, at the end of the course. On passing, you’ll receive a CITB SMSTS certificate valid for five years, which must be renewed by completing an SMSTS Refresher before it expires.
